A Gathering of Eagles Veteran’s Memorial Garden
As the first construction project to come from a CPRA prepared comprehensive master plan the new Veteran’s Memorial Garden was intended to augment Kingwood’s rapidly filling existing veteran’s memorial. The design of the Gathering of Eagles Memorial Garden was based on a circular cremation garden set into a grid of traditional burial plots. This radial layout of walks and planting beds allows a maximum number of interment products to be located in a minimum amount of space. Public memorialization elements include six bronze plaques commemorating recent wars and conflicts, and pavement-embedded plaques commemorating the five branches of the armed forces and the Ohio National Guard. An eagle sculpture will grace the top of the featured niche wall, and plantings of fragrant, long-blooming shrub roses fill the beds behind memorial curbing. Future products will include a second niche wall and individual niche columns in several of the beds.
